PUPPET PLAYS & READER'S THEATER
THIS WEEK!!!!!
Reading/Language Arts
This week our 4th grade students will be performing their puppet plays and their reader's theater productions. A note will be sent home by each teacher specifying dates and times. Ms. Cunningham's class will perform for parents on Friday, September 10th, from 9:45 - 10:15 a.m.
In addition to practicing fluency, expression and voice projection during reading time, our students will also be given baseline reading assessments this week. These assessments are one way to help us assess our students' vocabulary and comprehension skills. Last week, students were each tested on fluency, and those results along with the baseline assessment findings will be given to parents at our first parent conference.
Next week, we will begin our new Scott Foresman reading curriculum. Spelling and vocabulary assignments will be sent home at that time.
Math
We will be ability grouping our students this week. Mrs. Graham's class will begin learning geometric concepts and practicing their multiplication facts. Ms. Cunningham's class will cover place value, addition & subtraction computations, multiplication facts, integers, rounding, coordinate graphing, comparing numbers, expanded notation, and standard notation. Both classes will be covering all of the state standards this year, but in a slightly different order.
Science
All 4th grade students will be taught Science by Mrs. Graham. This week they will be focusing on note taking and the scientific method.
Social Studies
All 4th grade students will be taught Social Studies by Ms. Cunningham. This week they will learn map skills, play review games, take a quiz, and study the major mountains and mountain ranges of the world. The students will be given a study sheet for a test which will be given on Friday, September 17th. Please look for this sheet and help your child review the material for the upcoming test.
Planners
White Pine may be able to provide planners for all of our 4th graders this year. Until we know for certain, look for a planning sheet to be sent home (Ms. Cunningham's students) on which your child should be notating homework assignments or project information. Mrs. Graham will be contacting her students' parents about their planners very soon.
We have had a wonderful time getting to know your children! We expect a great year because our students are truly amazing. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
