WPCS/WPSA Staff and Families,
It has been a very informative few hours. Since making our initial decision to be open for the week (barring any changes), we have learned many things from our families and other districts.
It is now clear there are going to be a lot of White Pine families choosing to keep their children home tomorrow and for the rest of the week. Many of these families are at risk and have health concerns in the home. This has put them in a tough position of education versus safety. Simply said, this should not be a choice anyone has to make. We can send home resources and put assignments online, but little can compare to the power of a quality teacher. This coupled with the general safety of our student body and staff brought us to the following conclusion.
We have decided to remain open Monday and close school for the rest of the week. Staying open Monday will allow families to make arrangements for their students the rest of the week and allow teachers to send home any needed materials. Please continue to do what is best for your family and we understand if that is staying home. All absences on Monday will be excused.
Staff will work the rest of the week preparing just in case there is an extended closure after Spring Break. We will keep a watchful eye on the situation and make a decision by March 30th. You will be notified if we need to extend our closure and move to online instruction.
Thank you for all of your feedback and support during this difficult time. We are very fortunate you choose to be part of our White Pine Family.
